Dak Attack - no contract

Dak Prescott received the franchise tag from the Dallas Cowboys in March before free agency started to happen. Even though the franchise tag was applied, Dak Prescott is still looking for a long term pay day. Dak’s highest contract offered to him was worth 35 million per year which would have made him the 5th highest paid player in the NFL. Dak is coming off a great year throwing for 4,902 yards and 30 touchdowns. A very impressive stat line year, but also did not win enough missing the playoffs with an 8-8 record.

Now is Dak Prescott really worth all of the money? You have a quarterback who misses the playoffs constantly because he can’t win big games against better teams, having only two of his eight wins come from teams with winning records. This is not a quarterback that deserves a 45-million-dollar contract that he is looking for. The 4 guys that get paid more than 35 million per year (Ryan Tannehill 37.5 Mil, Carson Wentz 39.5 Mil, Kirk Cousins 40 Mil, and Russell Wilson 53 Mil) all went to the playoffs and brought their teams to winning records. Dak should just take the contract that was given to him which was originally 35 million dollars a year and run with it. Not only will you be getting paid 35 million dollars per year and the opportunity to get bonuses throughout the years to come, but also you will be the Franchise quarterback of the Dallas Cowboys. That is a big statement and you can earn so much money from just endorsements because you are the franchise quarterback for “America’s team”.

The Cowboys also show no sign of giving Dak the 45 million he is looking for. The Cowboys organization and Dak Prescott are completely on different pages right now. Ian Rappaport reported that they are having trouble with the price and how long the contract is. Dak is looking for a short-term contract and the Cowboys want him to sign a long-term contract. The Cowboys also have the problem with giving out money because they have already given so much money to Ezekiel Elliott and Amari Cooper.

This situation should give everyone flashbacks of the 1998 Orlando Magic free agency when Shaq wanted all the money, but the Magic wanted to pay Penny Hardaway the big bucks. The only difference is that the Cowboys have already gave Zeke and Cooper the big bucks already and Dak knows that. Dak saw that they got paid and he wants a big pay as well. Unfortunately, I think the Cowboys have other things in mind.
The Cowboys in 2015 got what they wanted and got their duo of Dak Prescott and Ezekiel Elliott and they started out hot. Then in the year 2018, the Cowboys sent the raiders their first-round pick and got Amari Cooper in return. Ezekiel Elliott and Amari Cooper got paid and Dak has still yet to receive his pay day he is looking for. The Cowboys obviously do not want to move on from Dak, but if Dak does not get his money he could be mobbing on from them instead. If the cowboys do not ink a deal with Dak soon, this could be the end of a team that has the potential to be something great.
